self-custodial Lightning
higherMark Lightning Wallet
v0.1.4This is our answer for a call for more Lightning wallets, to increase interoperability and provide more options to users to be able to transact. Please feel free to provide any and all feedback. Currently it runs on technology built by Lightning Labs on the LND spec.

v0.1.4 · Apple Silicon
Unsigned Mac app, or run in the browser.
If you are not on Mac this is recommended, or can be accessed anytime.
Two ways in: Advanced Mode off as a web app, live today, or Advanced Mode off as an unsigned Mac app you can keep in Applications.
Mainnet ID
Where to get the Wavelength mailbox ID
- Click Run now as a Web App, or open the Mac app.
- Create the wallet (or unlock it) with your password.
- On the home screen, the first card is Mainnet mailbox ID.
- Tap Copy identity_pubkey, then Open Wavelength mainnet form.
Why LND
Chosen for share, ease, and reliability
Live
Pop it out of the page
It loads as a rectangle, like an iOS app in the browser. Pop it out and you can minimize that window on its own, the way a Chrome app works.
higherMark Lightning Wallet · v0.1.4
Open the wallet as its own window
The Lightning runtime cannot run inside this page. Use Run now as a Web App, or this button. Create or unlock there. The mailbox ID is the first card on the home screen.
Now
Live today, no fees
There are no higherMark fees. The wallet is free. It transacts with instant cash finality and is interoperable with all other Lightning wallets that speak BOLT 11. You hold the seed. We do not.
As the standalone app is released, highermark.xyz will be updated once official Apple Distribution applications go live. In the meantime you can use this as a new Lightning wallet right now.
How to run
Web app or unsigned Mac app
Advanced Mode is off by default in both. That is the live Lightning wallet.
- Web appRun now as a Web App. Pops out of the page so you can minimize it on its own, like a Chrome app. Recommended if you are not on Mac, and available anytime.
- Mac appUnsigned Apple Silicon build. Drag it into Applications. Same v0.1.4 wallet, Advanced Mode off, Lightning live today.
The app generates a functioning Lightning wallet and also an npub and nsec you can use elsewhere. Advanced Mode toggled on displays demo features in development, to be released with later versions.
First launch
The Mac build may not open the first time
macOS Gatekeeper blocks unsigned builds. This is expected.
Right-click the app in Finder
Do not double-click it the first time.Choose Open
This is the option Gatekeeper suppresses on a normal launch.Confirm in the dialog
macOS remembers the choice. Later launches are normal.
Keys
A Lightning seed, and a real npub
higherMark is a two-in-one. The Lightning wallet is non-custodial, running on Lightning Labs Wavelength, and has its own seed. Beside it the app also generates a Nostr identity. You can ignore the second seed if you want. This is a work in progress.
Keep track of the Lightning wallet. It is a live feature and can be used today. The npub is real and can be managed in Profile in the meantime. Use the nsec in later releases. On-ramp and off-ramp are not available at this time. They are purely for demo mode behind Advanced Mode.
Specs
What this wallet supports
Honest matrix for v0.1.4. Yellow means live. The rest is roadmap or demo.
| Capability | Status | Detail |
|---|---|---|
| BOLT 11 invoices | Live | Send and receive. Standard Lightning invoices. |
| BOLT 12 offers | Not yet | Planned with later Wavelength releases. |
| LNURL | Not yet | Pay and withdraw via LNURL are not in this build. |
| On-chain Bitcoin | Live (Ark) | Board in and cooperative leave through Wavelength. |
| Self-custody | Live | Seed encrypted on device. Wavelength never holds keys. |
| Network | Signet live | Signet send and receive are live. Mainnet is a toggle; Lightning Labs REST for mainnet is not publicly serving yet. |
| Invoice expiry | Swap invoice | Expiry is set by the receive swap invoice Wavelength returns. |
| higherMark fees | None | Free to use. Network or swap fees may still apply. |
| Interoperability | Live | Pays and is paid by other Lightning wallets that speak BOLT 11. |
| Instant settlement | Live | Lightning finality once the swap completes. |
| Nostr npub / nsec | Live | Generated beside the Lightning seed. Use the npub today. |
| On-ramp / off-ramp | Demo | Shown in Advanced Mode only. Not a live cash path. |

Roadmap
Two-in-one, then three-in-one
Full functionality is a stack of wallets running in one surface: non-custodial Lightning from top providers, a real npub, and later the rest of higherMark. That is the 2-in-1 today, heading toward a 3-in-1 as Grid, AI, and device features land in stable releases.
The ability to go custodial will be implemented as the company increases its treasury to comfortably run its own LSP. That is a far-down roadmap feature, not a promise for this build.
We are also working on the hMobile device so you can scan QR codes with one device, fund your own channels, and connect your own nodes more easily. That is on the roadmap as well. For now this is the current iteration: a live Lightning wallet you can run today, plus a real npub, with the rest of the suite available as a demo behind Advanced Mode.

The planned stable release still lives on the hM Desktop page. This Lightning wallet is separate on purpose.

Technical
In plain words: not a node in your pocket
Wavelength embeds a self-custodial wallet in the app. Keys stay on the device. You create, unlock, check a balance, receive, send, read activity, or exit on-chain.
Think of it as a prepaid Lightning card you hold the keys to. Fast moves happen on a shared batching layer. When you pay a normal Lightning invoice, the app swaps into the public network for you. You do not open channels or hunt inbound liquidity.
- On-chain BitcoinOrdinary addresses and transactions. The slow, final rail.
- VTXOs (Ark-like)Virtual coins. Cheap transfers among Wavelength users, batched on-chain later.
- Lightning swapsBOLT 11 invoices via Loop (submarine swaps). No channels of your own.
The Go daemon (waved) can sit on a light wallet (default, no node), Neutrino, or an existing LND. Browser and in-app demos use the light wallet. Pointing it at LND is optional signing and chain access, not “this is just your LND node with a new coat of paint.”
Short answer: a normal LND wallet is your seed, your channels, your liquidity, your watchtower. This is self-custodial keys plus an Ark coordinator plus Loop liquidity. Easy because the hard Lightning ops are offloaded. The cost is coordinator, refresh, and expiry risk instead of channel-management pain.
- Why it feels easy
- No node, no channels, no inbound hunt. WASM in the browser. Same BOLT 11 invoices as everyone else. Exit to chain is a first-class command.
- What you keep
- Keys on device. The operator cannot unilaterally spend. You can force an on-chain exit while the VTXO is live and you can pay fees.
- What you give up
- You are not holding channels. Day to day is VTXOs plus swaps. If the coordinator is down you fall back to chain: slower, dearer, needs blockspace. VTXOs expire if you never refresh.
- Alpha caveats
- Mainnet is on, and the operator still allowlists clients. APIs can change. Swap path is not free. Interrupted transfers have bitten early releases.
Roadmap from Lightning Labs includes Taproot Assets, better mobile, and optional real LND channels later. That last piece is not the default today.
hM Desktop is Tauri, with Swift on Apple and a Rust backend. Grid Global, the on-ramp work on that app, is Lightspark Grid on Spark, a Lightning-compatible Bitcoin layer. That is not Core Lightning. Lightspark’s Lightning routing is commonly described as LDK-based. We still want Core Lightning in the picture for its efficiency and for network effects across implementations.
LND implements the BOLT protocol that Strike payments speak. If Strike is added to the signed Mac app and later Apple and Google Play store builds, it would be another rail on that same invoice network, beside this wallet, not instead of it.
